Subject: Encoder wiring

 Hi,

I am hooking up a set of encoders from DROPros, They are GS21 and are TTL.

What would be the best method for hookup to the KFLOP in terms of Pull-up resistor and your expertise on recommending wiring methods?

http://www.dropros.com/DRO_PROS_Digital_Readout_Scale.htm

Half way down this page shows the pinout connection for "dsub9". This is telling me to use a 2k ohm resistor on the 5v side, would this be best practice for the KFlop?

The signal lines are intended to go to IO0 - IO6

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,

I can't find GS21 listed.  But assuming they are the TTL type:  I believe they mean to indicate that they already have the 2K pull up on their end.  You would then add only a 10K pull down resistor at the KFLOP end.  IO0 through IO5 are the default inputs for encoders 0 through 2.

If possible use shielded wire with the shield connected to to KFLOP DC GND at the KFLOP end only.

Good luck

Hi Tom,

Looking more into it, and I don't want to confuse myself....

Would you be more specific about the sheilding ground location?

Dc ground at molex...
Logic ground (2 each available on each JP connector..
The hole on the board labeled "gnd"?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,

Any of those should work.  Just try to keep the connection length to KFLOP as short as possible.  Ideally less than 3 inches.
